Turgut Altınok was born in 1962 in Balâ district of Ankara. He completed his primary education in Keçiören Fevziatlıoğlu Primary School, and his high school education in Keçiören Kalaba High School. Altınok completed his higher education in the field of international law. Due to his works carried out for the development of Turkey-Azerbaijan relations, “Azerbaijan International Vector Science Center” has granted Turgut Altınok the `Honorary Doctorate` title. He became a professor in Abay State University of Kazakhstan with the authority of giving lectures.
The Mayor’s political life began in “Ülkü Ocakları.” His main profession is attorneyship. Altınok was 25 years old when he assumed the position of Keçiören District Chairman of the Nationalist Working Party (MÇP). Later, he served as the Ankara Provincial Chairman of the MÇP and as a Central Executive Committee Member. At the age of 28,Turgut Altınok became the Assistant Secretary General of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) after the September 12 coup d`etat. At his 30 Altınok was elected as the Mayor of Keçiören from MHP at the local elections of 1994, and from Welfare Party (RP) at the local elections of 1999. He was elected as the Mayor of Keçiören at the local elections in 2004 from the AK Party, which he was involved in its foundation stage. Altınok took office once again as the Mayor of Keçiören in the last local elections held on March 31, 2019.
Following Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli`s “Let`s Be One, Let`s Be Big, Let`s Be Alive “philosophy, Turgut Altınok embraced every part of the society without separating and marginalizing anyone and won the hearts of citizens with his mayor profile of justice, tolerance and sincerity. By establishing a municipality system, which the other local authorities took it as an example, Altınok has been a pioneer and recognized as a `Model Mayor’ with his innovative projects.
Keçiören, which became a tourism center during the period of Mayor Turgut Altınok, was classified under the title of ‘Places to Visit’ in the catalog of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Especially local market practices were the subjects of researches and academic dissertations in universities. His reconstruction projects together with infrastructure and superstructure works, made Keçiören (where five out of six of the district consists of slum areas) not only Ankara’s and but also Turkey`s shining star.
Mayor Altınok has many works that he brought to Keçiören. Some of his works which are shown as examples are as follows: Sea World, which is the largest open-air aquarium of Turkey; Turkey`s longest city-centered cable car; Ankara House; Monument of the great Turkish leaders in history; Orkhon Inscriptions Monument; Esztergom Turkish Cultural Center; clock tower; fountains; waterfalls; walkways; rose gardens; sample local markets; training centers; around 500 parks-gardens and sports complexes; support programs; social activities, concerts, free veterinary services and The Republic Tower, which is at the stage of completion
Turgut Altınok is married and has two daughters and two sons
